Myocardial abscess: a rare complication of valvular endocarditis demonstrated by 3D contrast echocardiography.

چکیده
Myocardial abscess is a rare and often fatal complication of valvular endocarditis. We present a case of a patient with aortic valve endocarditis whose post-operative course was complicated by a large left ventricular abscess. The spatial location of the defect was difficult to assess with 2D transthoracic echocardiography (TTE); however, real-time 3D contrast TTE allowed us to visualize the full extent of the defect and its precise anatomical location, prior to successful surgical resection.

A rare case of Klebsiella pneumoniae myocardial abscess.
Myocardial abscess of the left ventricular free wall in the absence of infective endocarditis (IE) is very unusual. Most cases are discovered during autopsies and are due to Gram-positive cocci. We present a rare case of Klebsiella pneumoniae causing myocardial abscess of the left ventricular free wall. The patient had no evidence of valvular endocarditis or bacteremia, and the abscess was disc...
متن کاملMyocardial Infarction and Aortic Root Mycotic Aneurysm Complicating Aortic Valve Endocarditis: Utility of Cardiac CT
Aortic mycotic aneurysms are a rare but life-threatening potential complication of infective endocarditis. Rapid deterioration of the vascular wall in highly focal areas makes these pseudoaneurysms particularly prone to rupture, resulting in uncontrolled aortic hemorrhage. While computed tomography angiography (CTA) is the imaging modality of choice for the evaluation of mycotic aneurysms, it i...
متن کاملAortico-Left Atrial Fistula: A Rare Complication of Bioprosthetic Aortic Valve Endocarditis Secondary to Enterococcus faecalis
Paravalvular aortic root abscess with intracardiac fistula formation is an exceedingly rare complication of infective endocarditis. This condition is even more rarely encountered in patients with bioprosthetic valve endocarditis. We report an unusual case of a 68-year-old Bosnian female with a bioprosthetic aortic valve, who developed an extensive aortic root abscess, complicated by an aortico-...
متن کاملMultiple aorto-right cavitary fistula: a rare complication of prosthetic valvular endocarditis in intravenous drug users.
Aorto-cavitary fistula is an infrequent complication in infective endocarditis as well as multiple fistula, being the most rare among intracardiac fistulas. The prognosis of infective endocarditis worsens if there are fistulas associated, exceeding the mortality over 40% despite aggressive surgical treatment. Although transoesophageal echocardiography offers a better sensitivity and specificity...
متن کاملMultiple pseudo-abscesses following aortic valve replacement.
Prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis is associated with valve ring abscess, conduction abnormalities and a grave prognosis. Aortic root abscess is a serious complication of infective endocarditis with high mortality. We report a case of a patient who had echocardiographic features resembling aortic root abscess along with severe aortic regurgitation, 6 weeks following aortic valve replacement. ...
